Sheffield United defender Chris Basham has provided an update on his injury situation over the weekend.

Basham is currently nursing a shocking leg injury sustained in the clash with Fulham. The experienced defender’s ankle effectively collapsed under him in one of the more shocking injuries we’ve seen for some time.

Of course, ever the positive character, Basham is hoping to make his way back to full fitness eventually and prove those doubters who feel he’s now done in a United shirt wrong.

Taking to Instagram this weekend, Basham posted an update with a long message detailing his recovery so far.

In the post, Basham admitted things had been tough so far but conceded he is starting to feel a touch more positive about things, six weeks on from the horror incident.

And it seems Basham has plenty of support too from past and present players, with the likes of Harry Maguire and Phil Jagielka wishing him well.

As a popular member of the squad for the last decade, Basham was never going to be short of support in his journey back from injury.

It was nice to see both Maguire and Jagielka down in the comments though, as the experienced international pair passed on their regards to Bash.

Given Basham’s age and the current state of this current Blades squad in terms of contracts, there is a belief among many that we won’t see the defender play again.

However, it does seem like Basham is feeling pretty good now and if he can get the actual injury problem sorted, he can try and work hard on the rehab to get himself back on the pitch.

It would be massive shame if Bramall Lane never sees Bash again. Just like Jack O’Connell, he could end up being robbed of the send-off he’ll deserve.

Hopefully, we see Bash back before May and he can play his part.
