Everton want Sander Berge - But who could United get in return?

As the days and weeks tick by, it seems more and more apparent that Sander Berge will leave Sheffield United this summer.

Sky Sports reported yesterday that United can sell Berge for £35m this summer, after relegation saw his release-clause drop by £10m. The sort of money is going to be hard to turn down for the Blades. Especially, as we are expected to try and make up a £40m shortfall.

Among the clubs interested in signing Berge are Arsenal, Aston Villa, and a more recent name in the mix, Everton. The Toffees seemingly impressed with Berge and eyeing him as someone to add power and strength to the midfield area.

But for Sheffield United, it’s about getting the best deal possible for the club.

7 Players Who Had A Euros To Forget

That might be in terms of straight cash, or looking at the squads of those coming in for Berge. Indeed, we wrote previously how someone like Reiss Nelson at Arsenal would be a welcome swap.

And with Everton now in the conversation, it’s worth looking at the Toffees squad to make a similar assessment.

Who Sheffield United could get off Everton in any Sander Berge deal

Unlike the Arsenal squad, Everton’s ranks are hardly brimming with players who look the business already. But, there are a few names in there who could do a job at Championship level.

Anthony Gordon is the obvious one. He’s already played in the PL under Ancelotti before being sent to Preston this season. He’s done ok in Lancashire, but has more in the locker you feel. At just 20, he’s someone who is exciting to watch and completely different to anything this United squad has.

Another name to keep an eye on is Ellis Sims. The 20-year-old is highly-rated at Goodison and has done well at Blackpool, scoring 7 goals in 20 outings down in League One. Naturally, a step up to Championship level is the next logical move for Sims.

Beyond that, it’s pretty slim pickings. Jarrod Branthwaite is a defender who has played first-team football with Everton already. He could interest United should Jack O’Connell remain out.
