It might be weeks away but Sheffield United fans will be buoyed by news of Erling Haaland picking up an injury.
The Blades are due to take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final in around a month’s time. Of course, Haaland is in absolutely superb form and he smashed in yet another hat-trick against Burnley in the quarter-finals.
But a report from The Daily Mail this morning says Haaland has been forced to withdraw from Norway duty with a groin problem. Haaland had been called up – alongside Sheffield United star Sander Berge – for Norway’s qualifiers with Spain and Georgia.
However, a groin injury means Haaland will now be going back to Manchester City for further assessment and treatment.
Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
A statement from the Norwegian FA confirmed the news on Haaland. It remains to be seen if there it’s anything serious, although City will be hoping that rest and time off will do the business.
Test
For Sheffield United’s defenders, the thought of playing against Haaland on that big Wembley pitch is something that will need plenty of preparation.
Haaland has destroyed Premier League defences this season, so the likes of Egan, Ahmedhodzic and Robinson will need to be at their very best on the day.
The good news for United is that in Egan and Ahmedhodzic in particular, we have two international defenders. That’s two players who are used to facing the very best. And while Haaland is a unique talent, it does mean the Blades have a duo who won’t be fazed.
Sheffield United News View: Haaland will do all he can to play at Wembley
Given the clash is four weeks away, there’s plenty of time for Erling Haaland to get over this injury setback.
But it’s worth keeping an eye on proceedings at City for us Blades fans. Not that we wish injury on anyone, but if City can be without some of their top players, then that will do nicely for United.
Of course, the issue is that the replacements aren’t far off being just as good. If Haaland is out, Julian Alvarez will come in. If someone like Grealish is out, then a Phil Foden waits in the wings.
