A group of rival fans have had their say on Sheffield United potentially qualifying for Europe this season.
With only nine Premier League games left to play for most teams in the race (ten for the Blades), Chris Wilder’s men have a genuinely realistic chance.
Heading into this weekend’s next round of fixtures, United are seventh in the table. They are two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and three above Arsenal. The Gunners play their game in hand at Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Fourth-placed Chelsea are five points ahead, with Manchester United (two points) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (goal difference) sandwiched between them.
With Man City potentially having a two-year European ban, that only increases the Blades’ chances. If upheld, it means Champions League qualification drops to fifth. Eighth place could then potentially get a spot in the Europa League.
There are likely to be many twists and turns before the end of the campaign. But the fact a newly promoted side is even in the conversation is testament to Wilder and his players.
What these supporters think about Sheffield United qualifying for Europe
In a new video from BBC Sport, fans have given their opinion on what the Blades playing in Europe would mean to them. Bearing in mind it could possibly see their club missing out.
Amy, Arsenal: “It would definitely be embarrassing if Sheffield United beat us to a European spot.”
Michee, Spurs: “Sheffield United are going for Europe. Why are Sheffield United in this conversation? What’s going on!
“We’re not as hungry as them.”
Max, Everton: “Hats off to Chris Wilder. No one’s been quite able to put a lid on them.”
Callum, Chelsea: “He’s (Wilder) manager of the season, regardless of what Liverpool do.”
Finnerz, Wolves: “I wouldn’t be embarrassed at all (if they beat Wolves to a European place). They’ve literally revolutionised a way of playing.”
