Sheffield United midfielder Luke Freeman isn’t exactly enjoying the best of loan spells with Nottingham Forest.
The Blades man was taken on loan by Forest in the summer. There were high hopes, too, given Freeman’s excellent form for QPR and the little glimpses he had shown at Bramall Lane in the Premier League.
However, just eight starts all season in 12 appearances hasn’t exactly been brilliant for Freeman, while he’s been left out of the matchday squad completely for the last 12, per Transfermarkt.
But just how is Freeman doing overall? Is it a case of a complete disaster signing? Or has he been unlucky along the way?
We caught up with Nottingham Forest News editor and writer, Lee Clarke, to get the lowdown on just what’s happening with Freeman at the City Ground.
‘Not working out’
Speaking to Sheffield United News editor Lee Connor earlier today, Clarke said Freeman’s time in Nottingham has been underwhelming and he has questions over his conditioning too.
“It just hasn’t worked out. It sounds awful to say, but he just doesn’t look fit at the moment,” Clarke said.
“He had struggled with a groin problem and recent had an op which has kept him out of action. But he was pretty poor against Swansea and was hooked at half-time, which tells its own story.
“He has shown with his goal at Bristol City he is capable. But it’s just not happening for him and the signing of Krovinovic should only decrease Freeman’s chances of playing more often between now and the end of the season.”
Given Sheffield United’s own injury problems, some Blades have called for Freeman to be recalled. Chris Wilder, though, confirmed that Freeman will spend the rest of the season with Forest.
Unfortunately for the 2019 Blades signing, it’s looking like this year might well be a write off. Another summer switch, then, is surely on the cards.
