Hull City want to sign Sheffield United midfielder Regan Slater on a permanent basis.
That’s according to Hull Live, who add that Slater’s future at Bramall Lane remains uncertain.
The 21-year-old spent the past season on loan with the Tigers, playing a key role in them winning the League One title.
Hull will be joining the Blades in the Championship next term following their relegation from the Premier League.
Whether Slater will be in red and white stripes, or black and orange stripes, remains to be seen.
The youngster was due to be out of contract with United this summer. But the club has activated the option to extend his stay by a further year.
Will Regan Slater leave?
The answer to this is likely to be answered by whomever is named as the next permanent manager of the Blades.
As yet, the identity of that person is still unknown. However, it is looking increasingly probable that Slavisa Jokanovic will be given the job.
If it is Jokanovic, then he will then need to assess whether Slater has a role to play in his squad next term.
One thing is almost certain and that’s that United will be lacking numbers in midfield in 2021/22.
Having impressed at the KCOM Stadium, Slater arguably deserves the chance to make the step up and play in the Championship.
He is also part of an exciting group of young players coming through at Bramall Lane. Fans would almost certainly welcome another academy product being given a chance in the first team.
Yet Hull are understandably keen and it would be unfair to block that move if Slater isn’t going to be given his opportunity.
