Dion Dublin on whether Sheffield United can beat drop after Manchester United win

Dion Dublin thinks if anyone can guide Sheffield United to safety, Chris Wilder can.

Dublin was speaking as a pundit on Match Of The Day after the Blades pulled off an upset at his former team Manchester United.

Bottom of the table with just five points and one win going into the game at Old Trafford, Wilder’s side returned to South Yorkshire with a win.

Kean Bryan and Oli Burke goals either side of Harry Maguire’s equaliser was enough to earn all three points for the visitors.

The Blades remain bottom and 10 points from safety. But this surprise result has given everyone involved with the club renewed confidence.

When asked if they could pull off the seemingly impossible and avoid relegation this season, Dublin said: “Of all the managers in this league, Chris Wilder will not lie down and will make sure that the boys go for this.”

It’s hard not to get carried away after such an impressive result.

Unfortunately for Wilder’s side, others down the bottom also picked up points.

Burnley twice came back from behind to beat Aston Villa 3-2. Elsewhere, Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham drew 0-0.

There’s still a huge amount of ground for the Blades to make up in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

From hereon in they need to show title-challenging form in many ways and it’s likely to still be beyond them.

But they have now won four of their last five matches in all competitions. FA Cup victories have really buoyed results in the Premier League.

After beating League One sides in the cup, they have now gone onto win their next league match on both occasions.

There’s one thing Dublin is certainly right about. If anyone can achieve it with this team, it’s Wilder.
