Iliman Ndiaye will sign for Marseille this weekend after Sheffield United came to an agreement with the French club.

Ndiaye’s future has been the subject of much speculation in the last few weeks and now it seems the saga is drawing to a close.

Taking to Twitter just now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Ndiaye is indeed set to sign for Marseille and he will sign a five year contract with the French outfit.

There is no mention of a fee, with reports from earlier this weekend claiming United had been asking for £30m for their star player.

Ndiaye moving to Marseille will bring an end to one of the longest running sagas of the summer so far.

And in reality, it’s probably a good thing. United needed clarity either way and the club can now move on and hopefully have a nice transfer fee to play with in the window.

The actual fee being brought in will be interesting to note. If it’s not anything close to £20-25m, then United fans will rightfully be furious.

Sheffield United News View: Let’s all move on, Ndiaye has

At the end of the day, players come and go and the club will always remain. It’s how it is and will always be.

If Ndiaye wants to move on and has let it drag this long without signing new terms, then his mind is clearly on other things anyway.

The more disappointing thing is he’s going to play for a team in a league dominated by one club most seasons.

Yes, Champions League football is a possibility but he’s going to Ligue 1 and really, will be largely forgotten about in England now unless he produces the goods.

It’s a sad scenario to see Ndiaye moving on from United. But such is football. We can only hope Heckingbottom is given the funds to reinvest.
