Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has fired back at Roy Keane and other pundits, amid criticism and ‘analysis’ of the Blades’ season.
Former Manchester United skipper Keane launched into a blunt and passionate rant about United and Wilder at the weekend. Within that, he criticised the recruitment and said Wilder was open to criticism given he’d lost 21 of 26 games.
In fairness to Keane, he did also admit he has enormous respect for the Blades boss, while pointing out there were also some ‘fantastic lads’ within the group.
But speaking ahead of the clash with Aston Villa this week, Wilder appeared in no mood to beat around the bush with his comments.
“You come under scrutiny and criticism. You have pundits who haven’t got a scooby doo about the football club. They make stupid, silly, and uneducated analysis of where we are as a football club,” Wilder said.
“But you have to deal with it. Like I say, we’ve all had the praise, so we have to take the negativity that comes when you don’t win.”
Wilder’s comments came as he defended Aaron Ramsdale. The boss was praising his young goalkeeper for showing character and courage to bounce back from earlier criticism.
Chris Wilder comes out fighting against Keane and other pundits
It’s clear that Wilder accepts his side are open to critics. Afterall, the points total is abysmal and some of the performances haven’t been brilliant either.
But he’s also a proud man and someone who defends his team and football club when it’s needed. And that’s exactly what he has done here.
Keane’s comments in midweek had United fans split. Wilder, however, seems to be firmly on the side of his football club.
If anything, it’s nice to see from the gaffer and good to see he has still has the fire burning in his belly to back and support his team.
