Chris Wilder has revealed that Sheffield United are close to coming to an agreement with one the squad over a new contract.

A number of Blades players could be in line for new deals following their excellent Premier League campaign. After John Fleck penned a new deal a short while back, the likes of Enda Stevens, John Egan, and John Lundstram could all get new offers.

And speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Norwich, Wilder revealed things have moved on when it comes to one player.

Yeah, we keep going. We hopefully might have a bit of news in the next 48 hours regarding one of the players“, Wilder said. (BBC Football Heaven)

“It will be another one ticked off. I do believe that all the boys will want to commit. And if we can keep ticking them off, one by one, then I’ll be delighted”.

Wilder, as usual, was distant in his approach as to who he was alluding too. However, it is widely known that Lundstram, in particular, has been a player Wilder has been keen to tie down in recent months.

The midfielder has been a key man this season. The club will be extending his deal in the summer with a one-year option they possess in the current contract.

Yet more good news for Sheffield United

In a brilliant season all around, the one worry for a lot of Blades fans has been the ability to keep hold of key players.

Lundstram is the only immediate worry in the current first-team squad. However, the likes of Oli Norwood and Chris Basham only have until 2021 to run on their current deals, according to Transfermarkt. That is also the case for the experienced duo, Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick.

The aforementioned Stevens and Egan both deals until 2022. But with interest from the likes of Everton already reported, United will be keen to tie down their Irish duo beyond that date.
