Sheffield United’s season has been decimated by injuries this year and things aren’t getting any easier for manager Chris Wilder.

The Blades boss has spoken at length about getting on top of fitness issues at the club.

Over the course of the season, United have had countless players miss periods of the season, right across the entire squad.

Yesterday, for example, saw Rhian Brewster, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Cameron Archer be among another cluster of injured players.

Over the season, it has cost United and the proof was in the pudding yesterday as Wilder finally got Ben Brereton-Diaz and Oli McBurnie paired up to produce a great performance up top.

However, while there were positives yesterday, there’s more bad news on the injury front for United and Wilder. This time, in the form of George Baldock and Tom Davies.

Chris Wilder confirms double injury blow for Sheffield United

Speaking before the game with Fulham, Wilder had said that right-back Baldock was touch and go.

However, talking to the media last night, Wilder confirmed the worst and at the same time, admitted that midfielder Tom Davies is also going to be missing for a while.

“Tom will be out for a month. He had a hamstring injury at the training ground,” Wilder said, before commenting on Baldock as well.

“He’s out for 6 weeks, he got injured playing for Greece.”

It means United can pretty much write Baldock off for the season given the time-frame and Davies, who has had no impact whatsoever at the club, is also unlikely to feature too much.

The emergence of Oli Arblaster in midfield is another reason for Davies being kept out. Come the summer, then, it will be interesting to see if either of these players remain at Bramall Lane.

Baldock is among the cluster of players out of contract. Davies, meanwhile, signed a three year deal but will need to prove his fitness over the summer you feel.
