It seems a lifetime ago now that Sheffield United fans were getting excited about the prospect of signing Barcelona youngster, Alex Collado.

Collado was all set to be a Sheffield United player in the summer of 2021, with then-manager Slavisa Jokanovic said to have been desperate to sign the Spaniard. Alas, as we all now know, that deal hit the buffers on deadline day, with differing reports as to where the blame was on that one.

In the end, Collado went on to have a decent enough half-season with Granada instead. After being unable to be registered due to the nightmare with United, Collado signed for Granada in January and went on to make 17 appearances for the Spanish side.

And now, a year or so down the line from United’s interest, reports in Spain have claimed Celtic are keen on signing the 23-year-old. Estadio Deportivo makes the claim, reporting how Celtic – along with a cluster of other European clubs – want to sign Collado.

Of course, it’s hard to picture the skilful Spaniard in this current Paul Heckingbottom side. Collado was earmarked for a right-wing position in a completely different formation under Jokanovic. But still, we thought it worth bringing you the news on a player who didn’t half cause a stir at Bramall Lane just 12 months back.

What a deadline day that was. At one point it seemed Collado had all but signed and then suddenly, in true Sheffield United fashion, it went spectacularly wrong.

There’s been talk of the winger making added demands, while differing opinions claimed that United hadn’t stuck to their end of the original bargain.

Regardless, it’s all in the past now and United, in hindsight, were probably better not signing Collado. After all, we might never have got Morgan Gibbs-White. Still, it’s interesting to see that Collado remains a player of interest to the European market.
