Sheffield United could face more frustration in the transfer market, with Burnley now keen on signing one of their midfield targets.

The Blades have made four signings this summer but remain woefully short in areas ahead of the kick off against Crystal Palace next weekend.

And according to Alan Nixon, United’s pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza could end up in disappointment as well.

Nixon writes via his Patreon that Souza is now a target for Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. In the report, it’s suggested Burnley would be happy to commit to Souza as they struggle to get a deal done for Arsenal’s Sambi Lokonga.

The Clarets are also trying to sign Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa.

Souza, 24, is contracted to Belgian side Lommel and is thought to be high on Sheffield United’s wishlist. Predominantly a sitting midfielder, he excelled in La Liga last season with Espanyol.

But with time ticking on and Paul Heckingbottom desperate for new faces, the Blades will have to act quickly to get this one over the line with Burnley now keen.

Sheffield United News View: Blades board have to press on now

There’s no time now for the United board to mess about with certain deals. If Heckingbottom wants these players, then they need to get them over the line.

Yes, we understand transfers can be complex and other clubs, like with this one, can scupper plans.

But Souza has been mentioned for a few weeks now so whatever the delay is needs resolving.

Paul Heckingbottom deserves a fighting chance this season and it’s down to the board now to get things done.

Getting Souza signed would be a good start.
