Another day, and another prospective signing missed by Sheffield United, with Joe Rothwell set to sign for Bournemouth today.
Rothwell had been linked with a move to Bramall Lane this summer after running his contract down with Blackburn Rovers. The midfielder was one of the stars of the show at Ewood Park and he’s joined a host of Rovers players to depart this summer.
And today, according to Sky Sports, he’s about to seal a move to Premier League side, Bournemouth. Sky reports how Rothwell is undergoing a medical with the Cherries ahead of closing out his move to last season’s Championship runners-up.

For Sheffield United and Paul Heckingbottom, it is yet another name to cross off the list of targets. The Blades are trying to land a number of players but have seen the likes of Scott Twine and Daniel Ballard slip the net just in the past few days.
Rothwell had been linked with Nottingham Forest, too, but looks set to have decided that Scott Parker’s outfit are the best for him.

Our View: Joe Rothwell Deal Was Never Happening
As soon as the Premier League clubs got involved there was no way Sheffield United were signing Joe Rothwell.
The former Man United youngster will want another crack at the highest level he can and you can’t blame him for choosing a PL club over United. At the end of the day, we simply cannot offer the standard of football or wages Rothwell will have been looking for.
It is, though, another name off the list of potential arrivals. It’s a list which seems to be getting smaller by the day as well, and given Heckingbottom wants five or six in, it’s getting a tad frustrating to see.
There is time left in the window, of course. But with each passing day and each target missed, fans will be getting more and more agitated at the lack of action in S2.
