Sheffield United nicked it late on at Bramall Lane tonight as they saw off Blackburn Rovers in what felt like a huge night for Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

A red card for Charlie Goode and a saved penalty from Wes Foderingham had set the scene for someone to step up and the hero. And on the night, Liverpool loanee Ben Davies was that man.

Davies scored minutes after coming on in front of the Kop to send Bramall Lane mad and give his Sheffield United side a valuable three points in the race for promotion. The goal came as a late corner caused chaos as Oli McBurnie made his presence felt, before Jack Robinson headed into the path of Davies who kept his cool to fire home on the volley.

And as usual, being the Twitter and Instagram love he is, McBurnie was on hand to provide his instant reaction to the stunning scenes at Bramall Lane.

McBurnie was introduced in the second half in place of Billy Sharp as Heckingbottom looked to hold the fort.

In fairness to the big striker, he once again put himself about and won a few headers and battles to see the game home for the Blades.

Our View: Sheffield United Scenes Show Togetherness

What a night. The momentum under Heckingbottom continues and you couldn’t have written the script any better.

United should have been out of sight in the first half again but Blackburn, to their credit, stuck at it and pushed United back in the second 45. On another night, Rovers take their chance from the spot and we are looking at an entirely different game.

However, it wasn’t to be for the away side. For United, this is a huge result. It keeps the good feeling around the club, shows massive character in the squad, and puts us right in contention even for the top two. Certainly, the Championship has been put on full notice.
