Sheffield United legend and now former skipper, Billy Sharp, could be set for a surprise move to the LA Galaxy in the MLS.

Sharp had been expected to be in-demand this summer for clubs in both the Championship and League One but as yet, no offer or agreement has been sorted.

Derby and Rotherham are known admirers of Sharp but neither have been able to get it over the line.

And now, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Sharp could be set for a big move to the US with LA Galaxy.

Nixon writes via his Patreon account how Sharp is set for talks with the Galaxy and that those talks could rapidly turn into a move stateside being agreed.

The Galaxy are well known in England following David Beckham’s move there. Since then, they’ve become one of the more popular franchises in the MLS and currently have top players like Douglas Costa and Javier Hernandez on the roster.

Sharp failed to play too much for United last season but was keen to remain at The Lane. Paul Heckingbottom had wanted to keep him as well, only to be overruled by the powers that be.

Now, it looks like Sharp is set for pastures new and a nice finish to a brilliant career.

If someone in England isn’t going to take a punt on Sharp then a move to a club the size of LA Galaxy is huge for him.

It’s an opportunity to experience a new culture and play in a slightly lower standard to wind down his career while still getting among the goals.

Further, this is a league that Lionel Messi has just joined, so the stock for the MLS is higher than ever right now.

This would be a good move for Sharp and one he deserves. If it comes off, we wish him nothing but the biggest success.
