Sheffield United midfielder, Ben Osborn, has offered some insight into the thinking of Slavisa Jokanovic and his way of playing, admitting the gaffer is ‘big’ on the Blades being positive with the ball.
United lost out to Bournemouth in a closely fought contest on the south coast yesterday. Morgan Gibbs-White had given the Blades the lead, only for Dominic Solanke and Philip Billing to win the game for the Cherries.
However, on another day, United could have won. A number of big chances were spurned in key moments. Indeed, midfielder Ben Osborn admitted that the performance was a good one, insisting results will come if the Blades can maintain that level.
United now face a two week international break. It’s a chance for Slavisa Jokanovic to once again spend time on the training pitch. The Blades hammered Peterborough 6-2 following the last break. And Osborn, continuing his post-match interview yesterday, believes it’s a crucial period.
Jokanovic wants Sheffield United to attack
Osborn believes the break can be big for the club. He admits there hasn’t been much time on the training field.
“I think the last break was productive. You can see that if you compare our performances from before and after last time. We’re getting there massively, but there’s more that the gaffer wants,” Osborn said.
“I think the first thing we addressed was pace and possession. And I think we can see some benefit from that. But the gaffer’s big on playing forward. You hear from the sidelines all the time, ‘forward, forward, forward’, especially if you’ve beaten the press.”
Osborn admitted he is enjoying playing in a more advanced role under Jokanovic this season. After being deployed in a left-wing back role under Chris Wilder, the versatile star is enjoying contributing further forward.
