Sheffield United might have lost to Luton Town yesterday but Carl Asaba felt the performance of James McAtee was something to shout about.

Manchester City loanee McAtee was one of the more positive players for United. In the second half in particular, he moved more centrally and roamed about causing problems for the Hatters.

The City youngster cannot play the next game against his parent club and will be a big miss for United along with Gus Hamer and Anel Ahmedhodzic.

However, Asaba still feels McAtee is showing some qualities at the moment that need to be praised.

Speaking about McAtee on SUTV following the game, former Blades striker Carl Asaba felt the City loanee is really shining in red and white now.

“The boys were playing some brilliant intricate football, still creating chances. You know, McAtee, he’s just playing at another level at the moment, causing everyone problems, running from central,” Asaba said.

“I thought McAtee, he’s been brilliant the last few games. When the ball’s at his feet he’s at another level and the desire, for the second goal, he’s trying to throw himself in. This is a creative flair player trying to fling himself in, he’s turning into an all-round player.”

McAtee scored the stunning winner against Brentford a few weeks back and he does seem to be the one United player showing a threat constantly.

The key now for the City youngster is to show the real consistency to his game over 90 minutes that make the best player what they are.

Clearly, United are only going to get results if our best attacking players are at it. McAtee is one of those and it’s vital he keeps playing and improving.

Chris Wilder knows the task to stay up is now bigger than ever. But all he can do is instil a belief into the players and hope his top dogs, like McAtee, produce in big moments.
