Aston Villa are turning their attentions to signing experienced Sheffield United loanee, Robin Olsen, after failing in a bid to bring in West Ham stopper Darren Randolph.

Olsen is currently on loan with the Blades but has lost his spot as number one. It’s due to a mix of injury and bad form, with Wes Foderingham seizing his chance under Paul Heckingbottom to cement the number one spot. There has been talk from some fans that terminating Olsen’s loan might be the best way forward for the club.

And now, according to Talksport’s Alex Crook, Aston Villa might be on hand to help the Blades on that front. Crook has taken to Twitter to suggest new Villa boss Steven Gerrard is keen on bringing Olsen to the club. Gerrard is known to want an experienced number two as back up to Emiliano Martinez.

Olsen was signed in the summer by Slavisa Jokanovic after Aaron Ramsdale left. However, he’s done little to impress the United fans in the main. He was beaten from the touchline by Jed Wallace against Millwall, while he also made a horrible misjudgement against Preston at home.

United are believed to be paying big wages for Olsen, who is on loan from Roma.

Our View: A Huge Boost For Sheffield United

If Aston Villa want Olsen here, then surely we need to do all we can to ensure the deal is done? Foderingham is now the number one and Olsen has looked nothing like being a Swedish number one.

If it allows the Blades to recoup some money in wages, and look into the market for a cheaper option, it could really be a bonus. It would, of course, leave United with only Jake Eastwood and Jordan Amissah as back-up to Foderingham.

But in all honesty, it’s never looked a good deal for Robin Olsen and Villa are welcome to take him.
