Sheffield United could end up keeping Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal have now reportedly identified his England teammate, Sam Johnstone, instead.
The Daily Star claims that Arsenal are looking at Johnstone after being put off by the asking price from United with regards to Ramsdale.
It’s suggested that West Brom could sell Johnstone for £20m. That is a drop on the price United want for our own number one. The Blades board are said to be looking for up to £35m.
There is also a belief around the United camp that Ramsdale isn’t actually pushing for a move away. We understand, as reported elsewhere in the local media, that ‘Rambo’ is keen to stay put for now.

After a rocky start to life at Bramall Lane, the stopper ended up getting in the England squad for Euro 2020. Ramsdale signed for United for around £18m last summer, as Chris Wilder looked to replace Dean Henderson.
Bonus
If United can keep any of the best players in the squad this summer then it has to be claimed as a huge bonus. Ramsdale is clearly on that category.
The Blades board have been resilient so far in their approach. It’s been very much a put up or shut up mentality. And looking at the situation with Ramsdale, it looks to have worked for now.
Ramsdale will be vital next term. His turnaround has been remarkable and United’s board have every right to demand big money. After all, we are in a good position after two years in the Premier League.
Whether Arsenal do come back with another bid remains to be seen. But for now, United fans can rest easy knowing that they have a number one secured for the foreseeable at least.
