It seems an age ago that Sheffield United fans were talking about then 16-year-old striker, Antwoine Hackford, making his debut for the Blades.
Back when United were in the Premier League, Chris Wilder opted to not only take Hackford with the squad to Crystal Palace, but he also gave him a late debut in what was a memorable day for the youngster.
However, since that day, we’ve heard little of Hackford as the likes of Daniel Jebbison and Will Osula seem to have jumped him in the pecking order at Bramall Lane. Of course, Hackford is still just 18 and having worked with Paul Heckingbottom before, he’ll be confident of getting some sort of opportunity in the not too distant future.
And taking to Instagram last night, Hackford appeared to suggest he is upping the ante with his training as he posted a series of pictures showing him putting in the work with the simply caption of ‘soon’.
SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
Down in the comments, Blades youngsters such as Jebbison, Femi Seriki, and Fernandinho all left their little comments, showing their faith in the United teenager.
Whether or not Hackford gets any sort of chance this season remains to be seen. But by putting in the hard yards, he’s doing the right thing.
Our View: Loan Move Beckons For Antwoine Hackford
The Blades seem to look after their young players and this season has seen the likes of Andre Brooks, Harrison Boyes, Zak Brunt, and Hassan Ayari all take up loan moves elsewhere.
You have to think that Hackford will be one of the next to get such a move, if he is indeed still impressing behind the scenes at Shirecliffe.
There is a worry that given we haven’t heard much from him, it suggest his progress might have slowed. But internally, the club will know what they’re doing and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see young Hackford get his chance elsewhere before this season is out.
