Alan Shearer was on pundit duty for Sheffield United v Tottenham last night and spoke highly of Blades defender Anel Ahmedhodzic.
The Bosnian defender once again played a starring role for United against Spurs. He is now suspended for the next two league games in what could be a massive loss for the Blades.
Signed in the summer for around £3m, Ahmedhodzic has quickly become one of the best defenders in the Championship.

And speaking for the BBC ahead of the Spurs game, Alan Shearer predicted Ahmedhodzic will be in the Premier League next year, even if United aren’t.
“If Sheffield United are not playing in the Premier League next season, then I think this guy will be. I think he’s that good,” Shearer said.

“I think he plays in a similar role to how Chris (Wilder) wanted his team to play with his three defenders in terms of being given the freedom to get into forward positions. This is an unbelievable ball in (clip of cross v Wrexham) someone should be be getting on the end of that. I think he’s a really good talent and I go back to my point, he will be playing in the Premier League next season I’ve no doubt.”
Sheffield United News View: Ahmedhodzic one of a few who could leave
That’s if we don’t win promotion. The Bosnian will probably join the likes of Berge and Ndiaye in leaving for a decent fee, while others are likely to follow on frees as well.
It’s crucial United win promotion to keep the likes of Ahmedhodzic. He showed against Tottenham just how good he is and looked a class act at times.
He has quickly become a fans’ favourite. United are a worse side when he doesn’t play. But this is nice praise from someone like Shearer. The Newcastle legend has played against some of the very best defenders. So any praise from Shearer should be well received.
