It’s back to Bramall Lane for the first time in what seems like an eternity for Blades fans today, as Nathan Jones brings his impressive looking Luton Town to the Steel City.
The Blades come into the game off the back of two disappointing away days. United chucked a two-goal lead away against Preston in midweek and must now find a way to bounce back. Manager Paul Heckingbottom is keen to see the mistakes of midweek eradicated, and could well opt for a few changes if personnel allows it.
A win for the Blades would see them jump the Hatters in the table into 11th. From there, United could be just six off the playoffs with two games in hand.
Team News
Sheffield United will be without both Oliver Burke and Regan Slater in the squad today. Burke signed for Millwall yesterday while Slater is finalising a move to Hull City. Luke Freeman also remains out injured, while the game could still come too early for the likes of John Fleck, George Baldock, and Oli McBurnie.
SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
Sander Berge could drop out of the XI for Conor Hourihane. The Norwegian looked a shadow of his best against Preston and might well be served best off the bench. Lys Mousset will also not be involved, despite showing off his latest fitness efforts on Instagram this week.
In defence, Ben Davies remains out with Covid-related issues. That means Jack Robinson is likely to get the nod again, although Kyron Gordon will be hoping for another chance after impressing at Wolves.
Up top, United’s options seem limited so Billy Sharp will start. David McGoldrick might come in while Morgan Gibbs-White recovers, with Iliman Ndiaye set to start once again.
Predicted Sheffield United XI v Luton Town
We’d like to see Hourihane back in the team but not essentially in place of Berge. Moving to a more rigid three in the middle with Hourihane and Norwood with Sander could work. Berge could then drive forward and support Brewster and Sharp, who would be our picks to start up top.
In defence, we’d like to see Ky Gordon get in. Jack Robinson has been poor this season and Gordon did well at Wolves.
Here’s how we think the Blades should or could line up, then, as they take on Luton Town today.
