Sheffield United v Huddersfield: Team news, head to heads, and predicted XI

Another huge Championship fixture awaits Sheffield United this afternoon as the Blades make the short trip across Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Town.

Fresh off the back of four wins, including an excellent statement win against West Brom in midweek, United head into the clash in fine form. Spirits are high in the camp, with the entire squad being utilised one way or another in recent weeks.

Huddersfield, though, are a stiff test. The Terriers are unbeaten in 13 themselves and currently sit in fourth position in the table. They’ll be confident, too, having seen off United at Bramall Lane back in August.

Here, then, we’ve got all the latest team news, head to head records, and our predicted XI for the Blades as Paul Heckingbottom takes his in-form team to Huddersfield.

Team News

The Blades are missing a number of players who might be considered for selection in the starting XI. Rhian Brewster is out for the season, while David McGoldrick picked up a nasty looking muscle injury against the Baggies.

On the left-hand side, Enda Stevens remains out of contention. As does Ben Osborn, who is said to be back training but not close to being considered just yet. It remains to be seen if Paul Heckingbottom will bring Ben Davies back into the back three in place of Jack Robinson. Fitness issues have plagued the the Liverpool loanees time at Bramall Lane thus far.

Huddersfield are expected to pick a similar side to the one that drew at Preston. Manager Carlos Corberan confirmed as much in his press conference yesterday. Once again, the big danger for Sheffield United will be the ever impressive midfielder, Lewis O’Brien.

Head To Head

Today’s clash will be the 107th meeting between Huddersfield and Sheffield United. The Terriers hold a clear advantage in the win column, having beaten the Blades 42 times compared to 29 losses. There’s been 35 draws in between. (

Huddersfield have taken four of the last six games, including the last clash at Bramall Lane tin 2021. Prior to that meeting, the last game between the Blades and the Terriers was the playoff final at Wembley. The less said about one though, the better.

How To Watch

Sheffield United v Huddersfield is live on Sky Sports Main Event today from 12pm. Kick-off is 12:30pm.

Predicted Sheffield United XI

Paul Heckingbottom faces big calls again across his squad. George Baldock did well at left wing-back and could keep his place. As mentioned, Jack Robinson and Ben Davies could compete for the left centre-back slot.

In midfield, Heckingbottom must decide whether to rotate or keep things the same. Oli Norwood will start so it’s a case of who goes in alongside the former Huddersfield man. Sander Berge, John Fleck, and Conor Hourihane are all in contention to get that nod.

At the top of the pitch, Morgan Gibbs-White is likely to come back in with McGoldrick out injured. Iliman Ndiaye, despite his brilliance, also looked tired against West Brom at times. With Oli McBurnie doing well of late, the big striker might get the nod from Heckingbottom alongside Billy Sharp.
