Sheffield United v Coventry: Jokanovic makes six changes as Berge returns

The international break is now over and Sheffield United welcome Coventry City to Bramall Lane to kick off the most important few months of their season.

The busy Christmas period is approaching and there is no international football now until March. It means the rigours of Saturday and Tuesday Championship football can get into gear, giving the Blades and manager Slavisa Jokanovic a real chance to get going.

United currently sit in 17th in the table. Coventry, on the other hand, are flying high in fourth and will be confident of upsetting the odds again at Bramall Lane today.

Sheffield United Team News

As is the case most weeks, Jokanovic has some big selection calls on his hands. The Blades squad is one of the biggest in the division, and certain players are now getting back fit too.

Sander Berge is back training and could even go straight into the team, given the struggles in midfield lately. Ollie Norwood is also suspended. Luke Freeman and Oli Burke are also back, although they’re less likely to be given the nod. In defence, Ben Davies has overcome a bout of illness and should return.

On the flip side, Jayden Bogle hobbled off at Blackburn but has been training. That means it’s a fight between he and George Baldock for the right back berth. In goal, Robin Olsen has come back with a slight knock, so Wes Foderingham could get the nod in goal.

Oli McBurnie will miss out after Jokanovic revealed he is a close contact of someone with Covid-19.

Predicted XI v Coventry City

We think Jokanovic will go for some changes here. The performance at Blackburn was woeful, so something needs to change. Despite being out for so long, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Sander Berge included.

Despite his goal at Ewood Park, Rhian Brewster might have to drop to the bench to allow Iliman Ndiaye back in. While up top, Lys Mousset might be ready to start after another two weeks’ training ahead of Billy Sharp.

Here, then, is how we see Sheffield United lining up against Coventry City today.
