Other Manchester City injury news for Sheffield United after Aguero blow

Manchester City are currently dealing with the news Sergio Aguero could miss around a month due to injury.

Aguero injured his thigh during the weekend’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United and was substituted at half-time.

Pep Guardiola has since revealed to Sky Sports the striker will be out for at least 10 days, but possibly as long as a month.

It means Aguero will definitely miss Man City’s Premier League trip to Sheffield United on Saturday. Unfortunately for a Guardiola side struggling for form this season, it isn’t the only fitness concern they have.

They will be looking for three points at Bramall Lane, having only won two of their five league matches so far in 2020/21. As well as West Ham, they also drew with Leeds United and were beaten by Leicester City.

The absence of Aguero is further compounded because Guardiola doesn’t have an out-and-out centre forward to replace him. His only other natural option, Gabriel Jesus, is also injured and isn’t expected back until at least next week.

It means that Guardiola may opt to start Raheem Sterling in the number nine role. It’s something the Spaniard has already deployed this campaign when in a similar position.

As well as Aguero and Jesus, it’s already known that Benjamin Mendy and Fernandinho will also definitely miss the game with the Blades.

However, City are boosted by the fact that Kevin de Bruyne returned at the London Stadium. De Bruyne was a second half substitute against the Hammers and will be a welcome return in midfield.

The equally influential Aymeric Laporte is also back. Again this could be timely, with the Citizens having only kept one clean sheet in the league this term.

Guardiola is hoping that Nathan Ake could be available as well, having said the defender is “close”.
