Manchester United injury update as trio expected back for Sheffield United trip

Manchester United are set to welcome back three players from injury for their Premier League trip to Sheffield United.

The Blades host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at Bramall Lane in the first match for both clubs following the international break.

And it is good news for the Red Devils in terms of fitness of a trio from their squad. According to their official website, Nemanja Matic, Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe will all be back and available.

As first choice left-back, the return of Shaw is probably the biggest boost for Solskajer. The England international has not played since the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on August 24.

When fit Matic has been used more sparingly, although his return could also be timely. That is because the visitors will already be without the injured Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay in South Yorkshire.

Tuanzebe is highly rated and has made five appearances in all competitions so far this season. The 22-year-old can play as a centre-back or on the left.

Pogba and McTominay aren’t the only players who will be absent this weekend. Diogo Dalot and Angel Gomes remain sidelined, while Eric Bailly and Tim Fosu-Mensah are recovering from knee operations.

Both Bailly and Fosu-Mensah are now back out training on grass and are expected to return before the new year.

The newly promoted Blades will be going into the game with the 13-time Premier League one point and two places ahead of them.

The Red Devils have made a stuttering start to the new campaign. As well as Palace, they have also lost to Bournemouth, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

Chris Wilder’s side are likely to fancy their chances of taking points during Sunday’s 4.30pm kickoff. Especially having drawn at Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur and beaten Arsenal already this term.
