3 Premier League free agents Sheffield United might consider

Sheffield United are currently preparing for their first season in the Premier League for 12 years.

This is following promotion from the Championship after finishing second behind Norwich City.

The Daily Mail reports that Blades manager Chris Wilder has been given £20m to spend on new players. Therefore signing free agents could be crucial.

So here are three players being released by top flight English clubs United might consider.

Erik Durm

This versatile defender could be exactly what Wilder needs to bolster his defence. Naturally left-sided, Durm can just as comfortably operate on the right.

The Germany international was often utilised as a wing-back by Huddersfield Town too, so could feasibly fit into Wilder’s system.

The one potential problem is the Huddersfield Examiner reports Fenerbahce are also interested in the 27-year-old.

Phil Jagielka

The Sun have already reported that the Blades are keeping a close eye on Jagielka. Apparently his future at Everton depends on if they can sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.

Expected to leave Goodison Park after 12 years, this veteran could return to his boyhood club for the twilight of his career.

Jagielka played 247 times for United and would bring a wealth of Premier League experience to the newly promoted side.

James Wilson

Having once been tipped as one of their brightest young talents, Wilson is set to leave Manchester United with 20 first team appearances to his name.

Still only 23-years-old the striker could still improve, although whether he is cut out for England’s top tier is debatable.

The Evening Express reports that Aberdeen are keen on Wilson after his loan spell there last season. The former England Under-21 international will also be familiar to Blades fans, playing nine times and scoring once on loan in 2018.

It would be a gamble to sign Wilson, but one that would be relatively inexpensive and potentially fruitful.
