Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder had a message of support for the Blades fans last night, after seeing his side finally pick up that first win in six months.
The majority of United’s fanbase has remained firmly behind Wilder, despite a run of games which had surpassed 20 without a win.
To many outsiders looking in, the level of fan support is something that is unfathomable, especially in the trigger happy days of the modern Premier League and managers coming and going like Amazon parcels.
But Wilder, when asked about the support he’d received from fans in recent times, was bullish in his response and believes it’s because Unitedites simply understand the process.
“It’s been a real difficult period for them,” Wilder said. (BBC Radio Sheffield)
“But they know the journey and understand the story. And other people don’t, quite frankly. It’s a historic club, with a rollercoaster of a history and we aren’t surprised. If you’ve supported this football club – as I have – you aren’t surprised at what happens at Sheffield United,”.
Wilder’s firm message comes at the end of a difficult week for the Blades, where off-field talk has dominated social media.
Brilliant from Wilder and a great way to get people onboard again
As if anyone needed any sort of reminders, Chris Wilder is one of us and he fully gets Sheffield United Football Club.
His message here was a clear one and one that most Blades will be fully onboard with when it comes to the club.
We all know it’s never easy being a Blade. But as Wilder said, not everyone understands just how things have been in the last four years and before that.
The bosses comments, then, were a great way of reminding everyone that we are all in this together, even if we do go down come the end of the season.
