Sheffield United loanee Tyler Smith impresses for Swindon with 4 goals

Just two days after joining on loan from Sheffield United, Tyler Smith showed Swindon Town his talent in front of goal.

Smith ran riot in the first half of Swindon’s pre-season friendly with Nuneaton Borough, scoring four times.

The Robins went onto win the game 8-0 as the striker made a good start to life with the League One club.

Smith has joined Swindon on a season-long loan as the 21-year-old continues to make good progress after graduating from the Blades academy.

This is already the forward’s fifth temporary spell away from Bramall Lane. The first was during the 2018/19 season, when Smith scored 10 goals in 23 games for Barrow in the National League.

In the second half of that campaign he moved to Doncaster Rovers, netting twice on his debut in a 2-2 draw with Burton Albion.

Last term Smith played for Bristol Rovers and then Rochdale, scoring six goals in total.

Smith is one of two United players currently out on loan. The other is goalkeeper Jake Eastwood, who injured himself on his debut for Kilmarnock.

Eastwood had to be substituted at half-time during Killie’s 2-1 Scottish Premiership defeat to Hibernian.

Leon Clarke, Mark Duffy, Kieron Freeman, Ricky Holmes and Ravel Morrison have all been released by the club. It’s believed Jack Rodwell has left as well. Meanwhile, Phil Jagielka is expected to be offered a new one-year deal.

In the Under-23s squad, now managed by Paul Heckingbottom, Jake Young has left to join Forest Green Rovers after being released. Former Manchester United youngster, Callum Gribbin, has also joined Barrow.

Gribbin signed for the Blades in late 2019 after a successful trial. Yet he has now moved onto the newly promoted League Two side.

Dean Henderson has returned to Man United following his second successive season on loan. Chris Wilder is keen to re-sign Henderson for 2020/21 as well, but there is a problem.

According to the Sun, the Red Devils are about to hand the 23-year-old a new £100,000-a-week contract. They want the Blades to pay that in full while he is on loan – which they can’t afford.

Finally, Richairo Zivkovic has also gone back to Changchun Yatai following his loan stint.
