Sheffield United are reportedly among a cluster of clubs trying to sign talented South American starlet, Yerson Chacon, according to reports.
Football Insider makes the claim about Chacon, suggesting that United, along with Blackburn, Bournemouth, Brugge, Anderlecht, Strasbourg and Angers are all in the race to sign the teenager.
Chacon has recently broken into the Venezuelan national set-up and Football Insider reports how the likes of Salomon Rondon and Fabrizio Coloccini are among the players known in the Premier League to be big fans of the winger.
Of course, United being thrown into the mix here doesn’t necessarily mean we will sign him. Paul Heckingbottom has already said we are done in terms of incomings thanks to the budget. It means the only way United would probably look at Chacon is if Sander Berge leaves, or the club feels this is a sure-fire hit for a future star.
Our View: Pinch Of Salt Stuff For Sheffield United
Not to discredit the report from FI at all, but this needs to be taken very lightly at the moment. It just doesn’t really add up, in all honesty.
Sure, United do extensive scouting around the world but at the moment, we aren’t actively looking to sign anyone and have more than enough players in the squad who can play there Chacon does. There is the element of adding him to the United World set-up which could intrigue the board, but even then, this seems a hard deal to do.
It would be a huge surprise to see Heckingbottom use any of his remaining budget on Chacon. For now, then, this is one that can be parked for the time being.
