Shock Sheffield United target Franck Ribery has spoken publicly about his future after leaving Bayern Munich.

German Publication Kicker reported that the Blades are interested Ribery. The 36-year-old is looking for a new club after being released by Bayern following 12 years with the Bavarians.

Now Ribery has spoken publicly about his next move and it’s unclear whether a switch to Bramall Lane could feature in his plans.

“I want to play two more seasons,” the Frenchman told L’Equipe. “I could have money anywhere. But there’s also the challenge.

“I’m facing an important decision. I not only have to think about myself, but also about my wife and my five children.

“I feel that I’m still capable of a challenge.

“I’m still hungry. And I think that I still have something to give. As long as I feel that I have a high level in my legs and in my head, I’ll try to find it. I’ll never lie.

“I could perhaps still play at a big club… I’m thinking about it. I have the experience that often makes a difference.”

When it was announced that Ribery would be leaving the Allianz Arena after more than a decade, two clubs emerged as front runners to sign him.

The first was his former team Marseille, whom the veteran joined Bayern from back in 2007. Ribery even admitted to French radio station RMC that a return to the Ligue 1 outfit would appeal to him.

Then there was Australian side Western Sydney Wanderers. They are managed by former Bayern player Markus Babbel, who admitted there was interest.

However, Babbel has since told Sky Sports Germany the club cannot afford Ribery.

The Blades have just been promoted to the Premier League and a move to the division could well represent the challenge the winger is after. However, whether the South Yorkshire side could even afford his wages is doubtful.
