Sheffield United have been given a further boost if they want to hire Slavisa Jokanovic as their next manager.
Jokanovic has been strongly linked with the Blades ever since Chris Wilder left his role as boss last month.
Jokanovic has twice been promoted from the division with Watford and Fulham. Which is why the Serbian is such an attractive prospect for the Blades.
Jokanovic is currently in charge of Al-Gharafa in Qatar, but is out of contract this summer.
The former Chelsea midfielder is expected to have several offers in Europe, but would prefer a return to England.
All of which works in the favour of the South Yorkshire side.
Especially as affordability isn’t considered to be a problem when it comes to Jokanovic. He earns around £2.5m a year after tax at the moment and would want similar at United.
Jokanovic to Sheffield United looks likely
The exit of Wilder marked the end of an era for the Blades which has largely been full of positivity.
During the 53-year-old’s almost five years in charge, the club were promoted twice and finished ninth in the Premier League.
Yet even before Wilder’s departure, form and performances had dropped massively.
The Blades are currently bottom of the table with just 14 points from 31 games. Defeat this weekend could see their relegation confirmed.
Paul Heckingbottom is currently in caretaker charge, but a permanent successor to Wilder is needed sooner rather than later.
The longer it goes on the bigger the task it seems the new manager will have.
Many of the players look devoid of confidence and fight as results continue to falter.
United will be expected to push for promotion at the first time of asking in 2021/22. Jokanovic has shown in the past that he can achieve that.
