Report: Fulham now want Ollie Watkins, Sheffield United's hopes look done with

Sheffield United face missing out on striker Ollie Watkins, with Sky Sports reporting that Fulham has now entered the frame to sign the Bees star.

The former Exeter striker smashed in 25 goals last season to become one of the most sought-after talents outside of the Premier League.

The 24-year-old forward is set to leave Brentford after they failed to win promotion, with the Blades, Aston Villa, and now, Fulham, all said to be keen on him.

However, it is this latest interest from Fulham which will come as a concern for Blades fans who hoped the club would push the boat out to sign the Bees ace. United have already missed out to the Cottagers once this summer, as Antonee Robinson opted to move to Craven Cottage ahead of Bramall Lane.

Furthermore, the Blades are not named in this fresh report from Sky. This, despite The Telegraph claiming a few weeks back that we could actually be willing to spend around £18m on Watkins.

Time to move on, Watkins isn’t going to be a Blade – Our View

This has rumbled on for some time now and while a lot of United fans would love Watkins at Bramall Lane, you get the impression the ship has now sailed.

Wilder has already spent big on Aaron Ramsdale. And with the likes of Matty Cash, John Swift, and Oli Burke all being lined up, it’s hard to see where we are finding another £20m+ for the Bees ace.

Watkins would have been ideal. Indeed, had the pandemic not struck we might have been having a different conversation. But with things how they are, we might just have to settle for Ramsdale and trust Wilder to make good use of the budget he has left.
