Former Premier League players, Matt Jarvis and Kieron Dyer have piled the praise on Sheffield United and how good they have been this season.
The Blades travel to The Emirates today looking to make it back to back wins against teams from the capital. A hard-earned 1-0 win over West Ham at Bramall Lane last week got 2020 up and running for Chris Wilder’s men.
They arrive in North London sitting sixth in the Premier League table. Indeed, a win will take United back into fifth, above Manchester United, who play Liverpool on Sunday.
And the Blades’ playing style and attitude to life in the Premier League has continued to get praise, this time, from two former Premier League stars.
Speaking on 5 Live Sport, former Wolves man Jarvis and Ipswich and Newcastle star Dyer, spoke of how they’ve been impressed with Chris Wilder’s team.
“They’ve taken the three at the back to a whole different level. I watched them last season against Ipswich and they blew my mind away,” Dyer said.
Dyer will have witnessed the Blades seal promotion against his former club at Bramall Lane last season. Therefore, their system and way of playing is still fresh in his mind.
Jarvis, however, has just been impressed with how the Blades have adapted to the Premier League.
“They’ve been a breath of fresh air haven’t they really?” he said.
“They’ve got no fear. They go out, with their own unique playing style. I think you could see at the start of the season when people were applauding their work rate and the manager asked ‘why?'”.
Hard to ignore
There was a time before Christmas when it felt like the Blades weren’t being given the credit they deserved from the press.
The likes of Danny Mills and Garth Crooks were among those to continually write Wilder’s men off. However, things seem to have turned a corner a bit.
United are being given plenty of praise and seem to get a mention on some talk show or report on a weekly basis. It’s a testament to the job Chris Wilder has done and richly deserved for both he and his players.
